Healthier “Twix” Bars

Fake Friday calls for a healthier version of my favorite candy bar!! These little bites use an almond butter center instead of refined sugar-caramel and a almond flour crust instead of butter! But guess what… they’re honestly SO MUCH BETTER than the store-bought stuff. And I’m not just saying that! Enjoy 😋

Ingredients:
Shortbread Crust:
– 1/2 cup of almond flour
– 1/2 cup of coconut flour
– 1/4 cup of pure maple syrup
– 1/3 cup of coconut oil (melted and cooled)
– 1/2 tsp of baking soda
Pinch of salt

Caramel Layer
– 2/3 cup of almond butter
– 1/4 cup + 1 tbsp of coconut oil
– 1/3 cup of maple syrup
– 1 tsp of vanilla extract
– 1/2 tsp of salt (optional depending on if you like the salted caramel taste)

Chocolate Layer:
– 1/2 cup of dark chocolate chunks/chips
– 1 tbsp of coconut oil

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350
2. Combine shortbread crust layer and press down mixture in square pan
3. Bake for 15 min (fork the center if it raises)
4. Set aside shortbread to cool while you make caramel
5. Combine caramel ingredients in a small saucepan over med heat and whisk until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool (whisk occasionally) for approx 5 min
6. Pour cooled caramel over cooled shortbread and place in freezer for approx 1hour to set
7. Combine chocolate and coconut oil in a bowl and microwave in 15 sec intervals until smooth
8. Pour chocolate over set caramel layer and place in fridge to set for another 10-20 min before cutting

  1. Twix used to be one of my favorite candies and I love that there are so many new recipes to make a healthier and vegan version of a sweet treat. I wish I could have some of this☺️
